Falcons HC explains Cordarrelle Patterson’s lack of playing time

The Atlanta Falcons were thoroughly outplayed in Week 4, but at least Cordarrelle Patterson was finally active. The “Joker” missed the team’s first three games of the season due to a thigh injury.

However, Patterson didn’t get a chance to return any kicks on Sunday. The Jaguars simply didn’t give him any decent looks, but the Falcons didn’t give him any offensive touches.

Head coach Arthur Smith said Patterson’s lack of playing time was due to the way the game unfolded, per team reporter Terrin Waack.

Smith explained that the team was easing Patterson back into the mix, but said he was excited for the veteran running back’s potential impact on offense.

Smith also said he was sticking with quarterback Desmond Ridder as the team’s starter despite his rough outing in London.
