Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson is in the final year of his rookie deal, and he continues to show why he’s deserving of a second contract with Chicago.

Johnson is coming off a two-interception performance against the Raiders, where he made his feelings clear to the cameras with his celebration: Show me the money.

Johnson was asked about where contract negotiations currently stand between his representation and the Bears, and he said “we’ll see by the end of the weekend.”

It’s noteworthy as the NFL trade deadline is Tuesday, where general manager Ryan Poles could opt to trade Johnson and get draft compensation. Although, reports indicate that Chicago is looking to “stand pat” at the deadline.

Johnson has said repeatedly that he’d like to remain with the Bears, but he understands all of his options — getting traded; not getting traded/getting an extension; not getting traded/not getting an in-season extension.

Johnson said he feels contract negotiations have gone “slower” than he expected. But he’s looking for “security” in his second deal.

“That’s what we play the game for, security,” Johnson said. “At the end of the day, a lot of it goes back to respect as well. At the end of the day, it’s not just about taking anything as well. You can throw some numbers at somebody and just hope they take anything but that’s not what I’m looking to do. I’m looking for respect and security at the end of the day.”
