Bears safety Eddie Jackson made quite the impression during his first two seasons in the NFL, where he quickly established himself as a playmaker in the league.

ESPN released their rankings for the top 10 safeties in the league, and while Jackson has proven before that he can be a top safety in the NFL, it wasn’t a surprise to see him just miss the cut following a down 2020 season.

“He has a very good trait with his ability to take the ball away,” one NFC executive told ESPN. “Good, not great athlete, lacks special top-end speed, and he’s been inconsistent as a tackler. Not the most physical.”

But the good news is that new defensive coordinator Sean Desai — who has coached Jackson since his NFL debut in 2017 — knows exactly how to put Jackson in a position to succeed.

In two years under former defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, Jackson totaled eight interceptions and five defensive touchdowns. Over the last two years under Chuck Pagano, Jackson has managed just two picks and one defensive score.

With Desai being credited with some of the success of Fangio’s defense in 2018, he’ll know exactly how to put Jackson in a favorable position to get back to the All-Pro ballhawking safety he was in 2018.
