Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles could be getting ready to jettison another young, talented defensive playmaker for the second year in a row. According to ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson has requested a trade after the two sides failed to get close on a contract extension. Johnson is set to be a free agent at the end of the season. Johnson is the second player to request a trade since Poles took over as general manager, joining linebacker Roquan Smith, who was traded to the Baltimore Ravens last season.

The 24-year-old cornerback was drafted in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft out of Utah and is one of the final pillars left from the Ryan Pace era. Johnson has proven himself to be one of the better cover corners in the league and is having arguably the best season of his career. He has two interceptions and is allowing a completion percentage of just 47% with no touchdowns. Now, he could be sent to a contender ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline.

The news woke up plenty of Bears fans on a late Monday night, many of whom were upset and confused. Here is how Bears fans are reacting to the reported trade request.
