Chicago Bears fans have been through some brutal times in the franchise’s storied history. But nothing is more traumatizing — at least in recent memory — than Cody Parkey’s infamous double-doink missed field goal that cost Chicago a NFC wild card win against the Eagles in Jan. 2019.
Since then, the Bears have found stability at kicker in Cairo Santos, who’s been Mr. Reliable during his four-year stint. Heading into Week 9, Santos had connected on all 11 field goals on the season. So it was certainly surprising when Santos missed a field goal in the first half of Chicago’s game against the New Orleans Saints. But it wasn’t just any miss; it was a doink.
As you can imagine, Bears fans were triggered by Santos’ (single) doink missed field goal, which brought back brutal memories of Parkey’s double doink and how it ended a magical 2018 season, where many believed Chicago could go far in the postseason.
