The Chicago Bears pulled off a late fourth-quarter comeback against the Minnesota Vikings, winning 12-10 on Monday Night Football.

They overcame some offensive struggles, including a pair of costly fumbles by quarterback Justin Fields in the fourth quarter, including one that led to a Vikings touchdown that gave them a late 10-9 lead.

But Fields responded with a comeback of his own, leading his team on a 10-play, 66-yard drive that took 2:19 off the clock. Fields connected with receiver DJ Moore on a 36-yard completion on third-and-10, which led to kicker Cairo Santos’ game-winning field goal.

Following Chicago’s victory, Fields took a moment after Matt Eberflus’ postgame speech to apologize to his teammates for his fumbles.

“Those two fumbles — Just want to say I appreciate y’all for sticking on my side and believing in me,” Fields said.

Fields told reporters after the game that his fumbles made him “sick to my stomach,” and he knew he needed to redeem himself.

“Guys never wavered,” he said. “Told the guys in the locker room that I appreciate them for sticking beside me, believing in me. Defense did a great job getting us the ball back for that last drive.”

Fields in the midst of an important audition to be the Bears’ franchise quarterback moving forward, especially as Chicago looks primed to have at least one top-three draft pick (thanks to the Carolina Panthers), where general manager Ryan Poles could elect to choose his own quarterback.

While Fields’ skillset is certainly worth taking another chance on, his leadership is also something that this franchise surely values. And he showed that again after Monday night’s win.
