The Chicago Bears are heading into the 2024 NFL draft with a lot of excitement. This is the first time in a while that fans believe in what they are doing. If the Bears nail this draft and find early success in 2024, they could certainly be contending for the playoffs this year.

While there’s no surprise what they’ll do at No. 1 — selecting quarterback Caleb Williams — there’s debate about that No. 9 pick. Will they stay put, trade back or even trade up?

The 33rd Team released their latest mock draft and they had the Bears making an interesting move at No. 9.

Of course, they have Williams going No. 1. When that happens, he will come to the Bears with the expectation of being their long-term franchise quarterback.

There is no secret at the top of the draft. Caleb Williams has been the presumed No. 1 pick for a while now. Williams will enter a fantastic situation with a solid team of weapons and an improved defense.

But the ninth pick is where things get interesting. They have the Bears trading back with the Las Vegas Raiders, who land Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy. Meanwhile, Chicago acquires pick Nos. 13 and 44 in exchange for No. 9 and a 2025 fifth-round pick.

With the 13th overall selection, the Bears select Texas defensive tackle Byron Murphy, who would look to cause some disruption as Matt Eberflus’ three-technique. With a guy like Montez Sweat already in place off the edge, this could be a great selection for them.

The Bears miss out on the top three receivers at No. 9, making a trade down much more palatable. They pivot to defense at No. 13, taking arguably the best defensive player in the class. Byron Murphy is an incredible athlete who should be a disruptive player immediately.

The Bears also got No. 44 back from the Raiders in this mock trade. That would be their only second-round pick after trading their selection for Sweat last year. In this mock, they take Oregon wide receiver Troy Franklin, providing another weapon for Williams. With DJ Moore and Keenan Allen already there, Franklin would be a great addition.

Elsewhere, the 33rd Team has Chicago landing Utah edge rusher Jonah Eelis in the third round and Utah safety Cole Bishop in the fourth round.

The Bears only have four draft picks ahead of draft night. But if their haul looked like this, it would be considered a success. Landing their franchise QB and strengthening the defense would be huge.
