When the Tennessee Titans released offensive tackle Taylor Lewan, we quickly broke down why the Cincinnati Bengals are or aren’t a great fit for the veteran as he heads to free agency.

The short of it? Lewan might make some sense as a backup at the right price for a Bengals team in need of depth.

The Draft Network’s Justin Melo is one of the first to put the Bengals as one of the best landing spots in the NFL for Lewan:

“Bengals left tackle Jonah Williams struggled throughout 2022. The ‘is he a tackle-or-guard’ debate has raged furiously on Williams since he was a prospect at Alabama with 33.625-inch arms, which barely meets the NFL’s preferred thresholds. Williams’ latest performances indicate he may be best served kicking inside.”

Williams is certainly an interesting conversation right now. He’s locked in on a guaranteed fifth-year deal but nothing beyond that seems certain. Injury issues and getting leveled by Myles Garrett twice a year hasn’t helped the perception of his game.

Realistically, the Bengals go into the offseason more than willing to upgrade on every spot not occupied by Alex Cappa and Ted Karras. But whether that’s Lewan is a tough sell — he’s had massive injury woes for years.

The Bengals might be a perfect spot for Lewan, but potentially only if he’s comfortable with a backup role at this point.
