The road to recovery begins.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow underwent successful wrist surgery on Monday to repair ligament damage, the team announced.

“Joe Burrow underwent successful surgery on his wrist today. The procedure went as planned, and he is expected to make a complete recovery,” the team said in a press release. “Joe will return to Cincinnati this week to be with the team and begin the recovery and rehab process.”

Burrow finishes his fourth NFL season having completed 66.8% of his passes for 2,309 yards, 15 touchdowns, and six interceptions in 10 games. He was sacked 24 times and now has 148 in just 52 career games thus far, an average of nearly three per game.

This is the second major injury and subsequent surgery Burrow has endured in his NFL career. As a rookie in 2020, he suffered a torn ACL, MCL, and other structural damage in a November loss to Washington. That year also saw him limited to 10 games.

This is also the second significant injury Burrow has had just in 2023. He suffered a bad calf strain on the second day of training camp, which sidelined him for over a month. He returned for the start of the regular season, but it was painfully evident the calf was limiting him for several more weeks, which contributed to the Bengals’ 1-3 start.

But after that dreaded beginning, Burrow got back in his groove and helped lead the Bengals to four straight wins that put them right back in the mix for the NFL Playoffs.

Sadly, Burrow’s season is over, and the Bengals have now lost three straight games, falling to 5-6 with just six games remaining while being on the outside looking in of the playoff picture.

Here’s to hoping QB1 makes a full recovery and is ready for OTAs once they begin in the spring.
