Cincinnati police have recharged Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon with aggravated menacing after “discovery of new evidence” stemming from an alleged incident last January.

On February 2, an aggravated menacing charge was filed against Mixon before being dropped the next day, with police then noting they could refile at a later date once properly investigated.

Cincinnati police issued a statement on Friday’s recharge, according to Sharon Coolidge and Kelsey Conway of the Cincinnati Enquirer: “This decision was reached following the discovery of new evidence during the investigative process. To preserve a fair and impartial judicial process for all parties involved, no investigatory details or evidence will be disclosed outside of official court proceedings.”

The initial charge accused Mixon of allegedly pointing a gun at a woman during a road rage incident at Second and Walnut streets at The Banks not long before he was due at Paycor Stadium on January 21 so he could join the team in traveling to Buffalo for its divisional round game against the Bills.

A warrant for Mixon’s arrest made headlines, though the charge was dropped. Much later, it was announced some involved with the initial charge were punished or reassigned.

Between the initial charge and the re-filed one on Friday, a shooting at Mixon’s home in Anderson Township that resulted in the injury of a teenager saw charges filed against two people close to Mixon.

The team issued a statement on Friday’s news, via Conway:
