Joe Burrow launches deep as receivers and cornerbacks battle it out.

Training camp next to Paul Brown Stadium continued on Thursday for the Cincinnati Bengals. Before the team’s second practice this week, we got to hear from a few more star players in their first in-person press conferences since 2019.

Jessie Bates III doesn’t have to be practicing right now. He could decide to preserve his body until his agent and the team come to terms on a contract extension. The 24-year old Bates is expected to be made one of the highest paid safeties in the game sometime before the beginning of the regular season. He may even reset the safety market altogether.

It would be perfectly reasonable for Bates to use that as a reason to not practice. But he’s been out there nonetheless. He expressed how eager he is to sign his extension Thursday afternoon:

Bates is saying the right things, as is his teammate Tee Higgins. Coming off an impressive rookie season, Higgins has bigger goals in mind for his season year.

Here are some other highlights and clips that stood out during the Bengals’ second training camp practice, starting with some praise for slot receiver Tyler Boyd:

Joe Burrow’s deep ball was on display for the first time as the offense continued installing against padless defensive players.

The connection with Ja’Marr Chase was just off today. Better now than in a few months.

Towards the bottom of the depth chart, Trent Taylor and Pooka Williams got in some work today. Even Austin Siebert had a decent afternoon.

The Bengals have one more practice before moving operations inside the stadium for the team’s Back Together Saturday event, where fans will get to see the team for the first time this year.
