The Cincinnati Bengals don’t sound interested in giving anybody a pass along the offensive line this summer.

That means second-round rookie Jackson Carman will have to earn the starting job at guard.

Offensive coordinator Brian Callahan revealed Friday that Xavier Su’a-Filo and Quinton Spain are the guards working with the first team in training camp right now, telling ESPN’s Ben Baby the following about Carman: “You gotta earn the right to take one of those jobs.”

Which is fair enough. Both guys are veterans with starter-worthy seasons under their respective belts. Carman is currently trying to make the transition from college tackle to pro guard.

Still, it would be pretty bad-looking if Carman doesn’t nail down a starting guard spot before the season begins. He’s one of the two big fixes the team made in front of Joe Burrow this offseason and another recent second-rounder — Drew Sample — has yet to make a major impact.
