The accolades continue to stack up for Tampa Bay’s Super Bowl-winning team.
The year of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers continued on Saturday night at the 2021 ESPY Awards, with both an individual award and a team award coming back to the Bay.
First, it was quarterback Tom Brady earning the ESPY for Best Athlete, Men’s Sports.

Brady became the first NFL player to win this particular award since 2010, when Drew Brees won it. While the G.O.A.T. wasn’t present to receive the award, he thanked his teammates in a pre-recorded message and made sure to tell them not to have too much fun at the show in New York because training camp is just two weeks away.

As you can see, there was a group of Bucs on hand to take in the night, and who else would give a speech but Rob Gronkowski?

The Bucs, who returned to the playoffs for the first time since 2007 and won three road games before winning the Lombardi Trophy on their home field back in February, became the first NFL team to win the ESPY for Best Team since 2014, when the Seattle Seahawks won it.
Tamp Bay beat out Stanford Women’s Basketball, Baylor Men’s Basketball, Alabama Football, Oklahoma Softball, the Seattle Storm and the Los Angels Dodgers for the award. It’s worth noting that, for whatever reason, the Tampa Bay Lightning did not get nominated despite winning last year’s Stanley Cup. Of course, nominees were announced before the Lightning completed the back-to-back this past week, but winning the Cup last year should’ve warranted a nomination at the very least. Last year’s NBA champions, the Los Angeles Lakers, were also not nominated.
All in all, it was a special night for Tampa Bay at the 2021 ESPY Awards, but as Brady told his teammates, things start back up again in two weeks. The ““going for two” quest is about to begin.
