Let’s review the events that unfolded for the Bills beginning last Thursday

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Buffalo Bills fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.

The 2024 NFL Draft is in the books, with the Buffalo Bills selecting 10 players between Rounds 2 and 7. Though we’ve discussed the pair of trades that general manager Brandon Beane and the team’s front office made, it’s worth visiting again at this stage to consider whether or not the Bills made out like winners or losers in the most recent draft.

While that question is often met with passing judgments levied upon NFL rookies who’ve yet to play a down as professionals, with Buffalo the question is perhaps better digested when considering how, when, and why they made picks as they did. Specifically those trades made in Round 1.

The results of the Buffalo Bills’ two trades that took them out of Round 1 after initially having pick 28:

Trade 1
(points in parenthesis = Rich Hill trade value chart)

  • Bills received: 32 (184 pts), 95 (40 pts), 221 (2pts) = 226
  • Chiefs received: 28 (209 pts), 133 (18 pts), 248 (1 pt) = 227
A near-even trade with the results of this trade

Trade 2
(points in parenthesis = Rich Hill trade value chart)

  • Bills received: 33 (180 pts), 141 (14 pts) = 194 pts
  • Panthers received: 32 (184 pts), 200 (5 pts) = 189 pts
Bills with a net gain as a result of this trade

To refresh your memory, here are the results of the Bills’ draft, round by round:

  • Round 2, Pick 33 (from Panthers) — Keon Coleman, WR (Florida State)
  • Round 2, Pick 60 — Cole Bishop, S (Utah)
  • Round 3, Pick 95 (from Chiefs) — DeWayne Carter, DT (Duke)
  • Round 4, Pick 128 — Ray Davis, RB (Kentucky)
  • Round 5, Pick 141 (from Giants through Panthers) — Sedrick Van Pran-Granger, C (Georgia)
  • Round 5, Pick 160 (from Packers) — Edefuan Ulofoshio, LB (Washington)
  • Round 5, Pick 168 (compensatory selection from Saints through Packers) — Javon Solomon, DE (Troy)
  • Round 6, Pick 204 — Tylan Grable, OT (UCF)
  • Round 6, Pick 219 (compensatory selection from Packers) — Daequan Hardy, CB (PSU)
  • Round 7, Pick 221 (from Panthers through Titans and Chiefs) — Travis Clayton, OT (International Player Pathway program)

What are your thoughts about Buffalo’s draft, all things considered? Were the Bills winners or losers in the 2024 NFL Draft?
