The Houston Texans added a former New England Patriots edge defender as they make their splashes throughout the free agency pool.

The Texans and former Patriots and Cleveland Browns linebacker Chase Winovich agreed to a one-year contract worth $2.75 million. The contract can’t be finalized until the start of the new league year on March 15 at 3:00 p.m. Central Time.

Aaron Wilson from KPRC-TV was able to get a look at the contract details. Winovich gets $1.75 million in guaranteed money along with a $1.25 million base salary, which is fully guaranteed. Winovich can earn a per game active roster bonus of $14,706 and also $750,000 in playtime incentives.

Winovich provided the Browns with 20 combined tackles, one tackle for loss, three quarterback hits, 1.0 sack, and a pass breakup through eight games, two of which he started.

The Patriots selected Winovich as a third-round pick in 2019 from Michigan. Texans general manager Nick Caserio was New England’s director of player personnel from 2008-20.
