Looking back, Moore and Toney have traveled a very similar path as they enter the 2024 NFL season.

In the 2022 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs spent their first of two second-round picks on wide receiver Skyy Moore. Midway through that season, they struck a deal with the New York Giants for wide receiver Kadarius Toney.

Since then, Moore and Toney’s roads have been oddly parallel. Their tenures have seen the highest of highs, with both scoring touchdowns in the club’s Super Bowl LVII win over the Philadelphia Eagles. But neither player suited up for any game during the most recent postseason run.

Due to injury and otherwise, Moore and Toney each saw their last action in Week 15. Naturally, there would be questions about their futures with the team, but the Chiefs insist that they remain confident.

“We’re obviously hoping both continue to improve, progress and are able to be consistent playmakers for us,” said general manager Brett Veach during his pre-draft Zoom on Friday. “I know Kadarius has obviously had a long history of injury issues, but he is probably our most talented wideout. Again, it doesn’t do anyone any good unless you stay healthy, but the kid has always worked hard here for us, and I know he’s been down there with [Patrick Mahomes], and I think it’s just a matter of him staying healthy. If he can do that, he can really do a lot of great things in this offense.”

It seemed Veach specifically wanted to refute any negativity about Toney or what he is capable of in 2024.

“That’s one of the things — there’s a lot of speculation about KT, but I don’t think we ever stopped believing in him,” championed Veach. “I think people around the building like him. It’s the injury bug, hopefully he gets some luck on his side and can stay healthy and can be the player that he was in Florida and the player that we’ve seen in spurts here. [I’m] just hoping he has a good offseason and has a little luck on his side and can stay healthy.

“With Skyy, Skyy has always been a mentally tough kid, and he’s still — he had that knee injury last year, so, to some degree, just these guys being on the field, staying healthy and then making plays when their number is called. The great thing about both these guys is they’re two guys we really like as people, and they’re smart, and they work hard.

“Now it’s just a matter of them putting themselves in positions to earn consistent playing time and then make plays when their number is called.”
