Broncos kicker Wil Lutz named AFC special teams player of the month for November

Broncos kicker Wil Lutz has been named the AFC special teams player of the month for November.

The NFL announced that Denver Broncos kicker Wil Lutz has been named the AFC special teams player of the month for November. He Joins Texans rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud and Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Khalil Mack as the players from the AFC to receive his award.

Lutz, whom the Broncos acquired from the New Orleans Saints during the cut-down period has been a key member to this team. Things started off rough for the kicker in week one, but since then, he has been fairly automatic and pretty clutch for the Broncos, especially during their five-game winning streak.

In the month of November, Lutz scored 36 points for the Broncos, was a perfect 11 for 11 on field goal attempts, 3 for 3 from 40+ yards and kicked the game-winning field goal vs. the Buffalo Bills in the closing seconds in week 10 of the season.

On the season, Lutz has made 24 out of 26 field goal attempts which comes out to 92.3% of his attempts while also making 18 out of his 20 extra point attempts. Broncos head coach Sean Payton and Lutz received criticism after his mistakes in the season opener, but Payton’s decision to trade for his longtime Saints kicker has proven to be a good one in the long run.

With the Broncos eyeing a late-season postseason push, they will need their kicker to stay this automatic and clutch for the remainder of the season if they want to make the playoffs. With the Broncos offense the way it is, Lutz will be called on to kick field goals throughout the season so hopefully, he keeps this up and helps the team make the playoffs.
