Pick someone already.

What more do you need to see?

With the third and final preseason game fast approaching the Denver Broncos, it feels like a conclusion to Denver’s quarterback conundrum may never come. Both quarterbacks have started a preseason game and both have looked capable. While it’s apparent that Vic Fangio and crew wished that one quarterback would take the reins and never look back, that, as we have come to experience in multiple quarterback battles since Manning retired, just hasn’t happened.

There are no shortage of opinions as to who should be the starter. So strong are fan feelings for one quarterback over another that conversations regarding other positions are stilted or choked out all together. Jerry Jeudy is looking like a damn monster this year. Javonte Williams can freakin’ run. Patrick Surtain II looks like the second coming of Champ Bailey. Jonathan Cooper has dominated in the preseason. The fact remains that this is a football team that plays in Denver and while there is upheaval at the quarterback position, fan focus will not deviate. Call it the Elway/Manning curse for having had two of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game.

It’s frustrating that, going into the last week of the preseason, we still don’t know who will be under-center when the Broncos take on the Giants at the Meadowlands in week 1. With the entirety of offseason camps, training camp, and now two preseason games, it’s impossible to believe that Vic and company are still flummoxed over whom should start… and yet here we are.

If there is still a question as to whom these quarterbacks truly are, there may not be time to find the answer. The heavens are not going to open up and illuminate anyone. Maybe there is no more clarity to be had. Continuing to find out just who these guys are against second and third-team defenses is doing nobody any good. The piles of evidence on these two are vast and one more bit of film here or there shouldn’t tip the scale one way or another. We have seen what each has to offer. To delay any further doesn’t demonstrate thoughtfulness or thoroughness, it only shows frightened paralysis looking down the barrel of a long 17-game season.

It’s time to pick one.
