There’s a new sheriff in town in Denver.

The Denver Broncos have added another quarterback to their roster for the 2024 NFL season. It’s Zach Wilson, the 2021 second-overall NFL Draft pick of the New York Jets.

Wilson, 24, compiled 33 starts in his three years with the Jets, finishing with a 12-21 record. The writing was on the wall for Wilson once the Jets traded for four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers, but Rodgers’ Week 1 injury forced New York to put Wilson back into the lineup.

As it played out, one of his better games of the 2023 season came against the Chiefs at Metlife Stadium. While he threw for 245 yards and two touchdowns, Kansas City held on for a 23-20 win.

To acquire Wilson, the Broncos swapped late-round picks with the Jets, sending them their sixth-round pick in exchange for the quarterback and one of the Jets’ seventh-rounders.

Denver’s quarterback room now features Wilson, Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci after the team traded Russell Wilson to the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier this offseason.

If Zach Wilson starts a game, he will join a post-Peyton Manning signal-caller list that includes Brock Osweiler, Trevor Siemian, Paxton Lynch, Case Keenum, Joe Flacco, Drew Lock, Brandon Allen, Jeff Driskel, Brett Rypien, Teddy Bridgewater, Russell Wilson and Stidham.

Denver is expected to be in the mix to trade into the top of the draft to select a rookie quarterback.
