Patrick Mahomes hasn’t produced without any reliable weapons

The NFL can be a crazy league in a variety of ways. That the Cleveland Browns and Kansas City Chiefs both sit at 7-3 seems wild. That the Browns have done so without their starting QB, RB and RT for most of the year ups the wow factor.

Now, we have this “crazy stat” following the Chiefs loss on Monday Night Football:

Cleveland having more points than Kansas City with PJ Walker and Dorian Thompson-Robinson leading the team most of the way is in fact “crazy.”

It just goes to show that even great quarterbacks, like Patrick Mahomes, can only do so much when receivers are failing them over and over again. The Chiefs had two huge drops on MNF and only two pass catchers averaged (barely) more than 10 yards per catch (10.6 and 10.5).

The two teams also are very similar on the defensive side of the ball. Kansas City has given up an AFC-best 164 points this season with Cleveland behind at 180. To be fair, the Browns offense has given up a few of those points and put the defense in bad field position quite often as well.

Both teams have seemingly easy schedules down the stretch with only a couple of difficult games. The Browns have to hope their defense can continue to dominate while DTR figures things out while the Chiefs just hope Mahomes can create enough magic out of Travis Kelce and not much else to go along with their defense.

How surprised are you by the Browns and Chiefs being so similar this year, especially on offense?
