Bryce Huff played a large part in the New York Jets upsetting the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 6 with his consistent pressure on Jalen Hurts. Following another stellar performance from the former undrafted edge defender, Touchdown Wire’s Doug Farrar mentioned Huff as his ‘secret superstar’ through the first six weeks of the season.

Here is what Farrar had to say about Huff:

Jets edge-rusher Bryce Huff. One thing you look for in great teams or great units – and the Jets’ defense is legitimately great – is the number of unheralded guys who pop up out of nowhere and just start dominating. Few players in the NFL have done that at Huff’s level this season. This is an undrafted free agent out of Memphis who had a few nice moments in his first three NFL seasons, but who expected this? Huff has been an absolute edge monster in Robert Saleh’s defense, with three sacks and 34 total pressures in just 114 pass-rushing snaps. The only edge-rushers with more pressures this season are Maxx Crosby with 38 in 221 pass-rush snaps, and Aidan Hutchinson with 36 in 249.

Huff leads the Jets in pressures this season and what makes his production even more impressive is the fact he’s seeing limited pass-rushing snaps. The Memphis product has also tallied the second-most sacks (2.5) on the Jets despite rotating with Jermaine Johnson and the other edge rushers.

Before the 2020 season, Huff signed with the Jets as an undrafted rookie out of Memphis. In recent years, Huff has evolved into a lethal pass rusher who is more than deserving of a new contract before he hits free agency after this season.

The Jets boast one of the best defensive units in the NFL, and that was displayed in the team’s 20-14 victory over the Eagles in which the defense forced four takeaways. Even though the sack numbers aren’t showing up — at least yet — Huff is becoming one of the premier edge defenders in the league.
