So, how does Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young feel about today’s news? Well, as is often the case, he’s super excited.

The rookie passer spoke on Monday afternoon, not too long after head coach Frank Reich officially handed over play-calling duties to offensive coordinator Thomas Brown.

“I’m super excited,” he told reporters. “I’m excited for the future. Yeah, I’m really excited.”

The change comes right at the beginning of the team’s bye week—a break they’ve desperately needed given their stockpile of injuries as well as that disappointing 0-6 record. Brown’s new power may also give the Carolina offense something they desperately need, as they currently rank 23rd in yards per game and 18th in scoring.

Alex Zietlow of The Charlotte Observer then asked Young about his relationship with the 37-year-old coordinator.

“He’s always been extremely integral into the day-to-day, on Sundays and everything that goes throughout it,” he replied. “He’s always around. It’s not something that’s gonna be this big change because he’s always been so integral in everything.

“He’s always the person we go to, who we consult, who we talk about. He helps build everything and has always been a huge part of the process. He’s always worked a lot with us and then he’s floating throughout all the rooms. He’s someone who’s really great to work with.”

The Week 6 box score won’t tell you the story, but Young had his most encouraging outing of the campaign in Sunday’s loss to the Miami Dolphins. We saw much more of the Heisman-winning player who the Panthers drafted out of Alabama—as he exhibited his poise, processing and placement throughout the afternoon.

So, with a bit more reign, perhaps Brown can do even more for Young.
