Tampa Bay’s signal caller has said for a long time when he’ll hang it up.

This past February, Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady became the oldest to ever to lead a team to a Super Bowl, and win it. Brady also ended the 2020 season with his new team in Tampa Bay with high marks. Yet people often speculate when he will hang it up and how much he truly has left.

As for the future Hall of Famer himself, he has said for quite some time now that 45 is the target age for him. But is it?

Brady’s personal trainer Alex Guerrero recently appeared on Adam Schefter’s podcast and talked about what he does to help the Bucs signal caller prepare for playing at his age. However, Guerrero also mentioned that the preparation is not just for a year or two down the road but beyond the target age, via the Boston Globe.

“I know from my perspective that I want to honor my promise to him in helping him with his goal [of playing through 45 years old]. If his goal changes, no problem. If he says, ‘Hey, I think I’m going to call it a day,’ then great. No problem. I will 100 percent support that.

“But in my mind, I’m trying to prepare him to be able to do that. I thought about this year two years ago. I try to keep his body three years ahead of where we’re going to be. I’m thinking about not just next year, but, ‘What if he feels so good at 45 he wants to play to 46?’ I don’t know, so I’d better plan! I better plan to think about how I need to get his body prepared for 46 or 47. I don’t know.”

General manager Jason Licht once said Brady can play until his 50 and the quarterback respectfully declined that notion. But if he and his trainer continue to work together and Guerrero doesn’t stop planning ahead, he just might reach 50 years old.
