Bucky Brooks names Lamar Jackson as future Hall of Fame candidate

The Baltimore Ravens have a star on their hands in quarterback Lamar Jackson. The fourth-year signal caller has shown the NFL that he’s here to stay, breaking countless records and leading Baltimore to a 30-7 regular season record as a starter.

After causing some controversy earlier in the offseason regarding Jackson, Bucky Brooks of NFL.com listed off five players under 30 years old that he considers to be Hall of Fame candidates, and the former University of Louisville star rounded out his list in the No. 5 spot. When explaining why he chose Jackson, Brooks pointed to how electrifying the quarterback is.

“The former MVP is on the fast track to Canton, knocking down records and piling up wins as an electrifying playmaker. Jackson is the first quarterback in NFL history with multiple 1,000-yard rushing seasons, and he is the first player to log 5,000 passing yards and 2,500 rushing yards in the first three years of a career. In addition, in his spectacular MVP campaign of 2019, Jackson joined Hall of Famer Steve Young and Cam Newton as the only quarterbacks in NFL history to produce at least 35 passing touchdowns and seven rushing scores in a single season.”

Brooks also mentioned Jackson’s record as a starter, saying that he’s “in prime position to make a run at a gold jacket”.

“Considering the Ravens have reached the postseason in three straight seasons under Jackson while the QB has compiled a 30-7 regular-season record, the fourth-year pro is in prime position to make a run at a gold jacket.”

Jackson still has a long way to go before he’ll have the chance to be immortalized with NFL legends, but he’s already begun to put together the beginning of a Hall of Fame resumé. If he can continue to play at a superstar level while also winning a Super Bowl (or multiple), Canton could very well be in Jackson’s future.

The players ranked above Jackson on the list by Brooks were Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes at No. 1, Indianapolis Colts guard Quenton Nelson at No. 2, Los Angeles Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey at No. 3, and Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker T.J. Watt at No. 4.
