The Bucs have one of the best wide receiver rooms in the NFL – when healthy. Unfortunately, the group hasn’t been at full strength for much of the 2022 season so far, and the same may be true for Sunday’s NFC South matchup with the Falcons at Raymond James Stadium.

The final injury report listed Julio Jones (knee) and Breshad Perriman (knee/hamstring) as questionable for Sunday’s game. Then, on Saturday morning, the team added Russell Gage (back) to the injury report, listing him as questionable.

It would stand to reason that one or two of those three may be trending in the wrong direction for Sunday’s game, as the Bucs elevated two young wide receivers from their practice squad on Saturday afternoon.

Both Kaylon Geiger and Deven Thompkins now have a chance to play on Sunday, should any combination of Jones, Perriman and Gage be unable to suit up against Atlanta.

Teams can elevate practice squad players up to three times during the regular season. After an elevation, a player automatically reverts back to the practice squad without having to make it through waivers.

This is Geiger’s second elevation this season, with his first coming back in Week 2 against New Orleans. He also spent Week 3 on the active roster during Mike Evans’ one-game suspension. Following that game, he was released and re-signed to the practice squad.

Geiger, an undrafted free agent out of Texas Tech, played five snaps on offense and 18 on special teams during his previous two games on the Bucs’ gameday roster.

Sunday will mark Thompkins’ first elevation after the 22-year-old receiver put together a very impressive training camp. Also an undrafted rookie, the Utah State product caught 102 passes for 1,704 yards and 10 touchdowns in his final collegiate season.
