With new Bucs offensive coordinator Liam Coen still in the process of filling out his staff, he now has one fewer in-house option to consider. Another Tampa Bay assistant is headed elsewhere, as David Raih is leaving to become the Commanders’ tight ends coach.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the news on Tuesday morning.

Raih spent the 2023 season as a senior offensive analyst with the Bucs. He and fellow assistant Jeff Kastl worked closely with wide receivers coach Brad Idzik, who left this offseason to become the Panthers’ offensive coordinator under new head coach (and former Bucs offensive coordinator) Dave Canales.

Raih previously worked with new Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury in Arizona, working as the Cardinals’ wide receivers coach from 2019-2020. The two will now reunite with Washington under new head coach Dan Quinn.

Todd Bowles has filled the offensive coordinator and special teams coordinator positions with the additions of Liam Coen and Thomas McGaughey, respectively, but Coen still has some spots to fill on his staff in Tampa Bay.

Coen will likely meet with some staff holdovers like tight ends coach John Van Dam, running backs coach Skip Peete and possibly Kastl to see if he wants them on his coaching staff. Bowles will allow Coen to remake the offensive coaching staff as he sees fit.

Assuming Peete stays on as the Bucs’ running backs coach, Coen still needs to decide whether he will retain Van Dam as the tight ends coach and Thad Lewis as the quarterbacks coach in addition to filling the receivers coach and run game coordinator positions left vacant by the departures of Idzik and Harold Goodwin, respectively.

Coen already replaced offensive line coaches Joe Gilbert and Harold Goodwin — who also left for Carolina — with the hiring of Kevin Carberry last week.
