The Bucs have re-signed offensive tackle Justin Skule to a one-year deal. This is according to Jenna Laine of ESPN.

Skule was originally signed by the Bucs in 2022. He spent most of that season on Tampa Bay’s practice squad. They re-signed him in 2023 and he made the team’s roster for the entirety of the season.

Skule played sparingly late in the season as Tristan Wirfs dealt with some minor injuries. He logged a total of 19 snaps across seven games, with another 10 snaps coming in Tampa Bay’s blowout win over the Eagles in the wildcard round of the playoffs.

Skule Brought Schematic Knowledge To Bucs Last Year

Prior to signing with Tampa Bay Skule spent two years with the San Francisco 49ers after they drafted him in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Working in the laterally moving, wide zone Shanahan offense would come in handy for Skule as he re-signed with the Bucs this past year to play under Dave Canales’ new system.

Skule was a natural fit for what Tampa Bay’s offense was supposed to morph into as his athletic testing coming out of college showed he was agile and fairly athletic.

He reinforced that with his play in San Francisco during his first two seasons with solid run blocking grades over 800-plus snaps. He will continue to provide that schematic familiarity with new offensive coordinator Liam Coen’s system.

Skule will once again slot into a reserve role as the Bucs have their starting tackles in place with Tristan Wirfs and Luke Goedeke.

This signing comes on the same day that Tampa Bay signed veteran offensive lineman Ben Bredeson to a one-year contract. This builds out their interior offensive line. Their next move at the position might come through the draft.
