The Bucs are now just a few days from returning to Raymond James Stadium for their Week 10 matchup against the Titans. As the team prepares for what feels like a must-win game if they’re going to turn their season around, several players are dealing with injuries that could leave Tampa Bay shorthanded if statuses don’t improve in the next day or two.

Bucs Have A Worrisome Addition To Thursday’s Injury Report

The Bucs’ initial injury report for the week dropped on Wednesday, and it featured three missing cornerbacks. As if that news wasn’t enough to cause some worry ahead of Sunday’s game against Will Levis and the Titans, the addition of rookie defensive lineman Calijah Kancey to Thursday’s injury report may do so.

Kancey has done well to bounce back from the calf injury that cost him essentially all of training camp, the preseason and a few games at the start of the regular season. He has two sacks and 14 quarterback pressures this year, showing what a pass rushing threat he can be.

But the 2023 first-round pick popped up on Thursday’s injury report with a quadriceps injury, so Friday’s practice may be an important one regarding his status for Week 10. The good news is that, while he was a new addition to Tampa Bay’s long list of injuries, he was still able to practice in a limited capacity. So the team may have just been taking a cautious approach with him, but we’ll see how things play out heading into the weekend.

While Kancey is a new worry, there were some encouraging steps forward for the Bucs defense in Thursday’s practice, at least on the injury front. Cornerback Jamel Dean, who is still working his way through concussion protocol, was upgraded to limited participation. Dean suffered a concussion early in Sunday’s 39-37 loss to the Texans, but it’s encouraging for him to have already made progress just a few days later.

Back to the defensive line, Vita Vea took a step forward on Thursday as he was a full participant in practice after being limited on Wednesday by his lingering groin injury. Getting him and Kancey to 100% by Sunday would be a big win for Tampa Bay as it looks to get more out of it’s four-man rush.

On the other side of the ball, there was an upgrade in participation for wide receiver Deven Thompkins, who was a full participant after missing Wednesday’s practice due to a personal reasons.

Is Carlton Davis III In Danger Of Missing Week 10?

It’s no secret that Carlton Davis had a bad day on Sunday against the Texans, and there’s no doubt that he’s itching to get back out on the field and make up for what might’ve been his worst performance as a pro. He said as much on Wednesday.

“It’s like one of the worst things that can happen,” Davis said. “It’s the brutal truth of playing corner is that whenever you’re not on point, it’s for the whole world to see. It could be for all the marbles, that’s just the position that I play. I take it with pride, I love what I do and I’m going to get better and move on past it. I just want to get that nasty taste out of my mouth.”

Davis’ practice status on Friday will be important, as he has been a non-participant for the last two days. He’s being listed with a toe injury, which is troublesome given that he dealt with a toe issue earlier this season that caused him to miss two games. He worked off to the side with trainers on Thursday after initially warming up with the team, so he could just be working through the problem as he prepares for what he and the Bucs will hope is a bounce-back day come Sunday.
