How to follow along as Buffalo looks for its third win over a Florida team

The Buffalo Bills made the 2017 playoffs with Tyrod Taylor as quarterback, but after scoring only three points in a Wild Card loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Bills’ front office made finding a franchise quarterback a top priority in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Buffalo traded up to select Wyoming’s Josh Allen with the No. 7 overall pick, and midway through his fourth season leading the Bills, it’s evident Buffalo has found its long-awaited franchise quarterback.

Allen, an All-Pro in 2020, guided the Bills into the AFC Championship game and back-to-back playoff appearances before inking a massive long-term contract extension over the summer.

The Jaguars found themselves in a similar situation this past May, when, with the No. 1 overall pick, Jacksonville selected Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence to lead the franchise.

The Jaguars can only hope Lawrence is their long-term solution at quarterback. Lawrence has struggled at times adjusting to life in the NFL, completing 59.6 percent of his passes with eight touchdowns and nine interceptions through his first seven games.

That’s just one of the storylines to watch on Sunday, when Allen and the first-place Bills (5-2) go for their third win over a team in the state of Florida when they take on the Jaguars (1-6) at TIAA Bank Field in a Week 9 clash.

Allen, wide receiver Cole Beasley, and Buffalo’s offense came alive just in time in the second half of a 26-11 win over the Miami Dolphins in Week 8. Beasley caught ten passes for 110 yards, Allen tossed two second-half touchdown passes, and Jordan Poyer had an interception and finished with ten tackles as Buffalo swept the season series with the Fish.

Lawrence and the Jaguars are looking to bounce back from a 31-7 defeat vs. the Seattle Seahawks in Week 8. Lawrence completed 32 of 54 passes for 238 yards with a touchdown and one interception, but the Jaguars fell behind 24-0 and lost despite holding the Seahawks to 229 yards of total offense.

Sunday’s matchup will be the 18th meeting all-time between the Bills and Jaguars, with Buffalo holding a 9-8 lead in the all-time series.

The last time these two squads squared off was Allen’s rookie season, 2018, when Allen ran for a touchdown and hooked up with Robert Foster on a 75-yard touchdown pass as the Bills prevailed 24-21 win on Nov. 25 in Orchard Park. Allen finished with 259 yards of total offense (160 passing and 99 rushing), Poyer and Matt Milano each added interceptions, and Kyle Williams recorded 1.5 sacks of Blake Bortles in the win.

Buffalo, which has won four of the previous six matchups with Jacksonville, is listed as a 14.5-point favorite. The Bills will be wearing their white jerseys with blue pants and white helmet. Here are all the ways to catch Sunday’s game from home:
