Well, is there any?

Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane spoke to the media on the first day of training camp and was asked a number of questions about the most burning topics of the offseason. Notably, Beane was asked about the possibility of a shiny, new contract for quarterback Josh Allen.

“Josh is in a great headspace and he’s ready to roll,” said Beane. “If for some reason we’re able to get something done, I’ll definitely make sure you guys [journalists] know. We’re also fine if it doesn’t get done this year.”

“He and I have a great relationship.” Beane added, “He’s letting his representatives do their job. If something happens, great, if it doesn’t we’ll focus on the season and we’ll pick it up next year. “

While Beane’s comments made it clear there was no timetable for the new contract, he was asked about ongoing progress, but said there was no “momentum” right now. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, says the GM, who noted that there wasn’t momentum toward a Matt Milano contract until just before it was signed.

“[Sometimes I think] it’s not gonna happen and then something triggers it. Whether it’s the player, whether it’s the agent, whether it’s something we do on our end that gets somebody going,” said Beane.

Beane also noted that it’s OK if a deal doesn’t get done before the season. He’s right—Buffalo has Allen under contract for two more seasons at this point.
