The Buffalo Bills kick off training camp soon and, in preparation, we are taking a look at the biggest battles on the board. Today we focus on who will wrestle the starting running back job in camp.

Devin Singletary vs Zack Moss

The pair of third-round picks won’t necessarily battle for the starting spot, nor to see who gets the lion’s share of playing time. Buffalo has shown they don’t mind rotating and that they will ride the hot hand, so maybe this training camp battle only matters to fantasy football owners—but it’s still worth watching.

Excluding the season finale, Moss took 45 percent or more of the team’s offensive snaps in eight of the last nine games of the season. In those same nine games, Singletary took 45 percent of the snaps seven times. In those same nine games, Moss had 87 carries to Singletary’s 82. Moss 412 rushing yards, Singletary 410. They seem pretty even.

While the Bills did use Singletary more in the passing game over the season and that final nine-game span, does that mean they were designing passing plays for him and not for Moss?

It felt like at times in 2020 that Bills fans wanted to bench Singletary in favor of Moss, but it’s pretty clear the team didn’t share that opinion. It’s likely to continue as a 50-50 split for the foreseeable future.
