The former team captain suffered a season-ending knee injury last November.
The Arizona Cardinals could be on the verge of bringing back one of their more productive players of the past half decade.
Former team captain Corey Peters was in the house on Monday for a work out seemingly spurred by the sudden absence of one Jordan Phillips.
Peters, who was with the Cardinals from 2015-2020, was a scheduled free agent this past spring. It was only until recently that the former third round pick was healthy enough to begin taking team visits. Peters tore his patellar tendon last November.

With the prior addition of J.J. Watt, the defensive line group for the 2021 Arizona Cardinals was suddenly a crowded one. That was until recently, however, when Jordan Phillips was noticeably absent from the start of training camp.
Kliff Kingsbury recently labeled Phillips’ absence as a “minor thing” and that he should be back soon. Watt also remains sidelined on the PUP list with a pulled hamstring.
Phillips, who signed a three year deal with the Cardinals last offseason, has been plagued by injuries during his brief tenure with the team. The 28 year old played only nine games with the club in 2020, securing a mere two sacks in the process.
Phillips was the Cardinals’ highest-paid FA signing last season, inking a 3yr $30M contract.

Peters, meanwhile, is much beloved within the Cardinal locker room. He was famously named the team’s 2020 “Walter Payton Man of the Year”, while also serving as a team captain. Despite his season ending injury in 2020, Peters had previously only missed a combine six starts in the four years proceeding.
While Peters had been garnering recent interest from multiple teams, one should assume his preference would be to return to the Cardinals. That is, of course, assuming the money lines up. The Cardinals currently sit at just over $11 million dollars in available cap space.
With the uncertainty surrounding Phillips’ ability to stay healthy combined with Watt’s status on the PUP list, the signing of Peters may go from a luxury to a necessity rather quickly.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Peters has been resigned.
