CB Shaquill Griffin weighs in on what Jaguars should do with first overall pick

There isn’t a clear choice that the Jacksonville Jaguars should take with the first overall draft pick in this year’s draft after it was a consensus they should take quarterback Trevor Lawrence in 2021. Jacksonville is likely deciding between Michigan edge-rusher Aidan Hutchinson, Georgia defensive lineman Travon Walker, Alabama offensive tackle Evan Neal, or North Carolina State offensive tackle Ikem Ekwonu.

Jaguars cornerback Shaquill Griffin went on the “All Things Covered” podcast hosted by Patrick Peterson and Bryant McFadden and weighed in on what his team should do. The veteran said he believes that Jacksonville should take Travon Walker, but didn’t seem opposed to Hutchinson, either.

“If we get that big boy [Walker],” Griffin said. “Pat, if we get that big boy. I’m telling you [teams would be like] ‘woah boy, they moving like that?’ I am going to be licking my chops back there.”

There has been some buzz that Walker could be the No. 1 pick in this year’s draft after a strong showing at the combine. He helped the Bulldogs win a national championship when they defeated Alabama in the title game.

Walker recorded 33 total tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, and one fumble recovery last season. He’s also one of the most versatile players in this year’s class and has the ability to play on the edge or within the interior of the defense.

Earlier in the video, Griffin said that Jacksonville needs someone to pair with defensive end Josh Allen. That’s a fair assessment because the Jaguars didn’t have another pass rusher besides Allen that offenses feared. Jacksonville couldn’t go wrong with Hutchinson or Walker with the first overall pick as both played at a high level for their respective teams.
