It has become more and more trendy to make the Pittsburgh Steelers first-round draft pick in 2023 Penn State cornerback Joey Porter Jr. He’s a legacy type of pick that has won over many fans because of name recognition and his father’s legacy with the team. This is the direction CBS Sports went with its new one-round mock draft.

It is hard to justify using the No 17 overall pick to take the fourth cornerback in the draft, especially one that only had one interception during his entire college career. If Pittsburgh could land the fourth or fifth cornerback with the No. 32 overall pick, that is a different matter but with the talent in this draft and the Steelers team needs, this could be better.

Just looking at how the draft played out, any of the three guys taken after Porter would represent better value. Clemson defensive tackle Bryan Bresee, offensive tackle Broderick Jones and wide receiver Jordan Addison would all represent better value at No. 17 and any one of them would be a legitimate impact player from day one.

Let us know in the comments what you think of Porter as a pick.
