Joey Bosa is out for at least four weeks after suffering a foot sprain early on in the Week 11 game at Lambeau Field but will that have been his last action after eight years as a Charger?

Good Morning, Bolts From the Blue.

Joey Bosa has been diagnosed with a foot sprain following his first quarter exit in last week’s loss to the Green Bay Packers. The eight year veteran left the field in obvious agony and was very emotional afterwards seemingly expecting the worst news that he had reinjured the same right foot that he had previously had surgery on. The early news was that his xray was clean meaning there were no broken bones or major muscle tears however examinations following that showed he had a foot sprain and will miss at least four weeks as he heads to the injured reserve list.

The injury could not come at a worse time with the Chargers’ season on the line this Sunday night against the Baltimore Ravens and it has left the outside linebackers’ depth scarily thin as Chris Rumph is already on IR. The new starting edge rusher pair will be Khalil Mack and Tuli Tuipulotu which is a great position to be in but behind them is the question mark as currently the only other outside linebacker is Justin Hollins who was signed off of the New York Giants’ practice squad last week. The Chargers will certainly be making an acquisition to gain some depth at a position where rotation is absolutely key.

The big question is now whether this was the last we have seen from Bosa in a Chargers uniform. Our very own Kyle DeDiminicantanio looked into all of the potential contract maneouvers available in his fanpost back in February before but we’ll discuss the other components to this discussion; injury history, quality of replacement availble and on-field production, which all play a significant role in assessing the options on the table. For Bosa, if his injury does keep him sidelined beyond the point where this team is no longer in playoff contention, should the team risk diminishing already damaged stock when he could be an movable asset? Bolts fans seem to have a more negative view on his abilities than the wider football media and if that reflects what other teams think about him then perhaps they should lean into it and see what they can get for him on the trade market.

Bosa is currently one halve of last remaining pair of players from the San Diego days so if Brandon Staley and Tom Telesco (or the potential incoming regime) do decide to move on from him it would be a stark reality to face for Joey after eight years on one team.
