Chargers edge defender Khalil Mack is only half a sack away from being tied with Steelers’ T.J. Watt and Vikings’ Danielle Hunter for the most in the NFL.

While he’s not atop that category, Mack is the league leader in sack yards with 98, which is three more than Cowboys’ Micah Parsons and Browns’ Myles Garrett, who are tied with 95.

The sack yards stat is notable because it signifies that Mack isn’t just getting sacks but getting them deep enough to make it difficult for opposing offenses to recover the drive.

The 32-year-old Mack is just three sacks away from surpassing his personal best (15) that he achieved when he was with the Raiders in 2015. This is the fifth time he has at least 10 sacks in a season.

Additionally, Mack is 2.5 shy from reaching the 100-sack mark.

“He has 13 sacks,” Brandon Staley said. “It’s a historic achievement — one of two players in the history of the National Football League to have 12 sacks with three different teams. He’s going to get to 100 sacks. You’re witnessing one of the special players that you guys have ever watched.”
