Costello was with the team during rookie mini camp.

Following the draft, the Chargers invited former Stanford and Mississippi State quarterback K.J. Costello to participate in the team’s rookie minicamp. After not initially extending an offer to him at that point, the team has just announced the signing of the 6’5, 225-pounder on Sunday morning.

As of right now, the addition of Costello should be seen as no more than an extra arm during training camp.

Costello’s best season in college came during his sophomore season at Stanford. In 13 starts that season, he threw for 3,540 yards and 29 touchdowns en route to earning Second-Team All-Pac 12 honors. He finished his career with the Cardinal with 49 total touchdowns to 18 interceptions.

In his lone season with MSU, he threw for 1,267 yards and six touchdowns but also tossed 10 interceptions in just four games played. However, he set a Mississippi State and SEC single-game record for passing yards with 627.
