It’s all up in the air, but I’m giving this a shot.

Just because a number of players didn’t make the initial 53 doesn’t mean their journey and career with the Chargers has come to an end.

Similar to last season, the NFL is allowing every team an increased amount of players they can keep on their practice squads. In a normal year, that total is 10. This year, teams can not only keep up to 16 players on the PS but up to six of those players aren’t limited by how many years of accrued experience they have. This means that bonafide veterans are able to spend time on the practice squad if needed. This provides much better flexibility throughout the season and may have ended up being the reason why some other surprising cuts were made.

Below are my predictions for who I believe the Chargers will sign to their practice squad this week.

  • DT Breiden Fehoko
  • TE Hunter Kampmoyer
  • S Ben DeLuca
  • RB Darius Bradwell
  • WR Joe Reed
  • WR Jason Moore
  • LB Cole Christiansen
  • G/C Nate Gilliam
  • CB Donte Vaughn
  • DL Joe Gaziano
  • LB Emeke Egbule
  • CB Kemon Hall (After Ryan Smith returns from the COVID-19 list)
  • OG Tyree St. Louis
  • OG Ryan Hunter

You’re not crazy, that’s 14 players listed above. I’m going to leave two spots open due to the fact that I believe the Chargers will bring in a new body or two from other team’s cuts. When that happens, some players on the current roster could see themselves dropped down to the PS. But basically, the above 14 players are the ones I feel confident in making the team based off my personal feelings, sources, and multiple reports about who is, and who isn’t, expected to be retained following final cuts.
