Yarbary has spent time in the AFL and Spring League.

According to a report by NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Chargers are expected to sign defensive tackle Willie Yarbary, a former Wake Forest defender who went undrafted in 2019.

Over the past two years, the 6’2, 285-pound Yarbary has had stints with the Massachusetts Pirates of the National Arena League and the Spring League. After joining the Pirates for their playoff push in 2019, Yarbary totaled just 4.5 tackles though 2.5 of those went for sacks. He also had stints with the Falcons in spring camp of that year and even saw some time with the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL.

As a senior at Wake, Yarbary was voted a team captain and finished his final season with 53 tackles and a team-high 5.5 sacks. His efforts earned him All-ACC Honorable Mention honors. In the Deacons’ bowl game, Yarbary had six tackles, one for loss, and a sack.

He will join former Wake Forest teammate Nate Gilliam who was signed as a UDFA prior to the 2020 season.

The Chargers still have a handful of spots open on the roster ahead of training camp so this move should be seen as nothing but kicking the tires on unknown players while they have the luxury.
