Tuesday Cheese Curds: Packers’ CB battle will be a good one to follow in training camp

With only one or two spots up for grabs among for several players, the cornerback spot will be must-see viewing this August.

Josh Jackson, Ka’Dar Hollman, Kabion Ento, Stanford Samuels: there’s a good chance that only one of those four names ends up on the Green Bay Packers’ 53-man roster to start the 2021 season.

Perhaps more so than any other position on defense, cornerback has depth and talent that should make for an excellent battle to make the roster in training camp. All of those players listed above will be competing for spots and all have some excellent skills — though they all have yet to fully put them to use at the NFL level to this point in their careers.

The top-end talent at the position is established as well, where Jaire Alexander has become one of the league’s most well-respected shutdown corners. Furthermore, there is intrigue in the middle of the depth chart, with first-round pick Eric Stokes entering his first professional camp joined by fifth-rounder Shemar Jean-Charles.

The group has all the storylines one could hope for to make it a focal point for fans during camp. In today’s curds, we take a deep dive into that position.

Three players — Jaire Alexander, Kevin King, and Eric Stokes — are locks to make the team. Another two, Chandon Sullivan and Shemar Jean-Charles, are likely to stick on the roster as well. That leaves one or two spots for a group of four players to compete.

Turner has started at three different positions over the last two years in Green Bay, and he will almost assuredly play multiple positions again in 2021. He will be one candidate to fill in for David Bakhtiari if he is not ready to go by week one.

Speaking of Bakhtiari, he’s a no-brainer pick for the Packers’ best value of the past 15 years. Getting a future Hall of Famer in the fourth round is as good a value as one could ever hope for.
