Friday Cheese Curds: No panic in Packers as they prepare for the Lions

The tape from Week 1 has been either flushed or set aflame and now Green Bay’s focus turns to their first divisional contest of the year

The Green Bay Packers’ Week 1 blowout loss was stunning.

From players and coaches to their passionate fan base, everyone was flabbergasted as to how the team came out so flat against the New Orleans Saints. For a team expected by most to compete for a Super Bowl, this was a performance that triggered a few alarm bells.

Apparently none of those were in Lambeau Field.

There is a good reason for that. The Packers have not lost consecutive games in the same season under Matt LaFleur, meaning the team bounces back quickly and has at least mastered the art of burning the tape after laying an egg on the field. It also shows they have faith in their team to right the ship quickly.

That faith hopefully is rewarded Monday night at home against the Detroit Lions because back-to-back losses, including one against arguably the worst team in football, won’t just cause concern. It would cause a full blown panic within the fan base.

Until proven otherwise, the Packers should be expected to right the ship against Detroit before facing a crucial test against San Francisco in Week 3.

That will likely be the crucial barometer for how good the Packers really are.

The team is confident they’ve put Sunday’s stinker behind them but fans should be forgiven if their angst is a little higher than it probably should be as the Packers prepare to face the Lions.
