The offseason could have played some mind tricks but Love’s mindset ever wavered.

After an anything but normal offseason, Jordan Love started training camp the same way he entered the offseason: cool, composed, and ready for anything.

With Aaron Rodgers’ future in doubt from the draft right up until the dawn of training camp, the Packers’ 2020 first round pick has to prepare for the possibility he would be the new starting quarterback of the Green Bay Packers this season.

During OTAs and minicamp, Love took all first team reps with Rodgers staying away and leading right up to camp he assumed he was going to be the starter. When you’re in the situation Love is in, much like Rodgers was with Brett Favre from 2005-2007, that’s how you have to prepare.

As everyone knows, Rodgers returned and Love is now QB2 behind the three-time MVP. Love was probably the biggest winner out of all this, getting time with the starting offense and beginning to plant the seeds of a future that could come to pass as soon as a year from now.

Rodgers has gone out of his way multiple times to say how much he enjoys Love and what he’s been able to teach him. Cognizant that he was putting Love through what Favre put him through, Rodgers said he made a point to check in on Love during the standoff with the Packers to make sure he was being honest about how he was feeling and how Love was doing.

For now, Rodgers is still in command but things could look very different a year from now. Love has been very even keeled from the moment he was drafted and that temperament should serve him well next year or whenever he gets the reigns to the team.

Preseason football usually lacks excitement but finally getting to see what Love can do at actual game speed should have Packers fans glued to their screens. For his part, Love had the right mentality during the whole brouhaha with Rodgers and that mindset will serve him well when he eventually becomes QB1.

He was QB1 until he wasn’t. That was Love’s mindset throughout the offseason and though Rodgers has returned and Love is back on the bench, he’s still soaking up knowledge from the future Hall of Famer.

Love got close during this final drill but Rodgers showed he still has his pinpoint accuracy and this perfectly illustrates the status of the Packers’ quarterback situation for 2021.

Juwann Winfree has become the camp stud for the Packers thus far and is definitely making a case despite the strong depth at the wide receiver position. Could Winfree sneak onto Green Bay’s practice squad?
