The Jets have traded tight end Chris Herndon to the Minnesota Vikings per Ian Rapoport.

Herndon was selected in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft and put together an impressive rookie season, totaling 39 catches for 502 yards and 4 touchdowns. He seemed to get better each week as the season progressed.

It was a promising start to his career. Unfortunately it’s also where the promise ended. 2019 and 2020 were lost seasons for Herndon. He only got onto the field for a single game in his second NFL season due to a four game suspension and a pair of serious injuries. In 2020 he returned but looked like a sub-replacement level player. He looked like a shell of the player who showed promise as a rookie incapable of doing anything effectively.

We await the specifics of the compensation but given what I stated above and Herndon’s status in the final year of his contract I can’t imagine it’s much.
