C.J. Mosley believes the Jets are being steered in the right direction.

Mosley opted out of the 2020 NFL season due to COVID-19 concerns, but he is back with the team and eagerly awaiting the new campaign. The last time Mosley appeared in a game was in Week 7, 2019 against the Patriots. He played in just parts of two games that season due to injuries before missing all of last year.

Mosley rejoined the Jets at voluntary OTAs and mandatory minicamp. Now he’s excited to be back on the field and believes the Jets have a bright future ahead of them.

“Like I said before, [I’m] just happy to be back in the building, happy to be back with teammates, be in the locker room, just to be around the new energy,” Mosley told the team website. “I feel like what we’re doing right now is building a great foundation, something that we can build this team on and try to stack up wins and get to where we all want to go.”

Mosley is confident with where the Jets are going because of their new head coach, Robert Saleh. Mosley has sensed a newfound optimism around the team thanks to Saleh’s approach in his short tenure as head coach.

“When he came in that’s one of the first things that you could feel was the positivity, the eagerness to win, the eagerness to learn, the eagerness to be around the players, and that’s what it’s been about this whole offseason program,” Mosley said. “A lot of new faces, a lot of new pieces to the puzzle coming in, and I think as a collective group we’ve done a great job of trying to get in as much work in the hours that allow in this offseason program.”

The Jets’ hope is to get Mosley, their highest-paid player, back to where he was a few years ago. Mosley was one of the best interior linebackers in the league when he signed his five-year, $85 million deal with the Jets in 2019.

Now 29 years old, it’s unclear what Mosley is still capable of after essentially two years away. The Jets, however, are counting on him to be a monumental piece of their defense now that he’s back.
