Browns NFL Draft Live Blog

1:05 PM: A quick refresher on which selections the Cleveland Browns hold for tonight’s second- and third-round of the NFL Draft:

12:10 PM: One more note about the first round as the six wide receivers selected in the first 20 picks – Drake London, Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, Jameson Williams, Jahan Dotson and Trevor Burks – were the most in the common draft era, which began in 1967, according to the NFL.

11:25 AM: The first round of the draft felt a bit different with the Cleveland Browns not having a selection, but Browns fans had company as the Browns were one of 10 teams that did not have a first-round selection. That is the most in the common draft era, which began in 1967, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

10:59 AM: I missed this news yesterday, but Mary Kay Cabot of the Plain Dealer noted that the Browns have expressed some interest in free agent DE Jerry Hughes. He’ll be 34 years old this offseason, and although he’s been a starter for the last 8 years in Buffalo, he wouldn’t be in his prime any more. The idea of signing Hughes is unrelated to the draft, though — although it might be influenced by whoever they do or don’t draft today.

10:22 AM: My favorite Day 2 mock draft always comes from Dane Brugler of The Athletic. He mocks rounds 2 and 3, so here is what he is projecting for Cleveland:

Round 2, No. 44: EDGE Drake Jackson, USC – “A young player with disruptive rush traits, Jackson checks a lot of boxes with the Browns.”

Round 3, No. 78: WR Alec Pierce, Cincinnati

Round 3, No. 99: EDGE Alex Wright, UAB

In our DBN Mock Draft, Wright was one of the players picked to go to the Browns. Multiple mock drafters have also mentioned Jackson to Cleveland. Barry Shuck also has a nice article up about some of the top players available who Cleveland should take a look at.

9:30 AM: What are some Day 2 mock drafts picking for the Cleveland Browns? Let’s start with Sports Illustrated, which is picking EDGE rusher Drake Jackson of USC at No. 44:

The Browns could use another pass rusher to take pressure off of Myles Garrett. Even though Jackson wasn’t as productive in 2021 as many had expected, he has plenty of upside due to his length and explosiveness off the edge.

The USA Today is taking WR John Metchie III of Alabama at No. 44:

With a need at wide receiver, the Cleveland Browns use their first pick of the 2022 NFL draft to address that need, adding John Metchie III from Alabama. While Metchie’s season was cut short due to a knee injury, he is a smooth route-runner with some play-making skills after the catch. Just watch his game against Auburn, and his battle against Roger McCreary, and you will come away impressed.

9:20 AM: The same way they dominated on the field last year, the SEC was the star of the first round of the draft with 12 players, highlighted by five from Georgia, being selected.

8:06 AM: Last year, a Baker Mayfield locker was featured at the NFL Fan Experience in Cleveland. For this year’s draft in Las Vegas, Nick Chubb had the honor of being featured:

7:52 AM: Today feels like the real start of the NFL Draft. The remaining players on the DBN Big Board heading into Day 2 are below, with the Browns picking at No. 44 in the second round.

If there is a player the Browns covet, it’s feasible they could trade up a few spots to grab him. Let us know in the comments section which player you would love Cleveland to have.
