The Chicago Bears have a very good tight end in Cole Kmet. He may not be Rob Gronkowski or Travis Kelce in their prime, but Kmet is one of the best tight ends in the NFL. He is also very good at embracing the role of leader.

Now, he’ll be joined in the tight end room by veteran Gerald Everett, who Chicago signed to a two-year deal in free agency. Kmet and Everett give new offensive coordinator Shane Waldron a dynamic 1-2 punch at tight end, and Kmet had some high praise for his new partner-in-crime.

“[Everett] is really familiar with the offense and with Shane, going back to L.A.,” Kmet said, via ChicagoBears.com. “He’s a good pass-catching tight end, very athletic, good at yards per catch. We’re looking forward to getting to work with him and play with him. That should be a good 1-2 punch at tight end.”

Kmet praised Everett for his physical play, and he believes the addition of Everett will elevate the offense.

“He’s a relentless player in that regard,” Kmet said. “He’s tough to bring down, and that brings a lot of juice to an offense when guys do that. That’s something that I try to predicate my game on as well is being tough to bring down and being physical with the ball in my hands, and he does that well. He’s also a very explosive athlete.”

Both Kmet and Everett are going to be relied on as the Bears try to get incoming rookie Caleb Williams acclimated to life in the NFL. As we’ve seen across the league, the best teams each have top-flight tight-end play. If Chicago can get that from Kmet and Everett, their offense is going to be pretty good considering the other weapons already on the roster.
