Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson underwent successful shoulder surgery in Los Angeles, according to owner Jim Irsay on Tuesday.

Richardson suffered a Grade 3 sprain to the AC joint in his throwing shoulder during the Week 5 win over the Tennessee Titans. He was placed on the injured reserve list the following week and it was decided that he would have season-ending surgery.

Irsay gave an update on social media, saying Richardson’s surgery was long but successful. He also mentioned that no surprises were found during surgery and that all went as expected.

Irsay declined to give a timetable for return.

The Colts will be without the electric rookie quarterback for the remainder of the 2023 season, which is disappointing considering the promise he had shown even while missing a few games.

Now, the team’s focus as it pertains to Richardson will be getting him ready for the offseason workouts, which head coach Shane Steichen said there’s a good chance he’s ready for.

For obvious reasons concerning the recent history of Colts quarterbacks, that’s not a guarantee to happen. More will be made known about Richardson’s recovery once the rehab process begins.
