The Indianapolis Colts confirmed the AC joint injury for rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson on Monday and now have a decision to make as it pertains to a potential stint on the Reserve/Injured list.

Head coach Shane Steichen told reporters Monday that the team is still evaluating all of the options, including a stint on the reserve list, which would keep Richardson off the field for at least a month.

“We’re still evaluating all that stuff. Once we get more information on it, we’ll let you know,” Steichen said of a potential IR stint.

Reports are that Richardson suffered a Grade 3 AC joint sprain in his throwing shoulder. That typically leads to a more lengthy recovery period of about 4-6 weeks so it would make sense to free up a roster spot in the meantime.

This is a pretty disheartening situation for the Colts. Regardless of how one decides to look at it—bad luck or proneness to injury—Richardson has dealt with injuries in almost every game this season.

What matters is getting him back on the field when he’s fully healthy and hopefully, Gardner Minshew can keep the team competitive in Richardson’s absence, something he’s been able to do thus far.

A decision on Richardson’s potential trip to the reserve list will come this week so be sure to check back for the latest updates.
