The Indianapolis Colts hosted Illinois cornerback Quan Martin for a top-30 visit ahead of the 2023 NFL draft.

Outside of the quarterback position, there’s no bigger need on the roster than cornerback. The Colts certainly have done their homework on the position when it comes to the draft, and Martin joins a long list of prospects who have visited Indy.

Along with the Colts, Martin reportedly had nine other top-30 visits before the draft.

Some might have Martin listed as a safety, but he played mostly the nickel role in Illinois’ defense. He has experience working both as a slot defender and as a free-ranging single-high safety.

A fifth-year senior who also was a team captain, Martin went to the Senior Bowl but suffered an ankle injury during the week of the event.

At 5-foot-11 and 194 pounds with 31 1/8-inch arms, Marting may not have the size teams love, but he’s an extremely explosive athlete. He posted a 4.46 in the 40-yard dash (1.44 10-yard split) and jumped out of the gym with a 44-inch vertical and 11-foot-1-inch broad jump.

His 10-yard split, vertical jump and broad jump all ranked as the top numbers among safeties at the NFL combine.

Over the final 21 starts of his career (his final two seasons), he made the switch from the boundary to the slot. In doing so, Martin recorded 22 passes defended, four interceptions and 6.5 tackles for loss. He also has experience working on special teams.

Martin currently is projected to be a Day 2 selection in the draft.

The Colts have a big need to add a boundary cornerback and while Martin may not thrive in that role at the next level, he would be a welcomed addition to a cornerback room that needs depth in both areas of the room.

We’ll be tracking the Colts’ reported interest in the 2023 draft class so be sure to keep up with latest updates via our tracker.
