Low-risk, high-reward signings are the best.

While Malik Hooker has yet to officially practice for the Dallas Cowboys after signing with the team last week, we now have contract details on Hooker’s one-year deal with the team.

According to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News, Hooker’s deal with the Cowboys follows the low-risk, high-reward style of contract the Cowboys love to do when bringing in veteran players from other teams.

This is yet another team-friendly signing for the Cowboys, and one that does provide a chance for a high reward in the grand scheme of things. Hooker is coming off a torn Achilles, and has yet to get on the practice field for the Cowboys in Oxnard, but that’s mainly due to getting back into physical shape after working through all the Covid protocols.

Hooker will be competing with another low-risk, high-reward signing this offseason, Damontae Kazee. With Kazee and Hooker both in the mix to earn the starting free safety job, the Cowboys at least have two legit free safety candidates so they should also have depth, after trying to fit a square peg in a round hole with players like Xavier Woods. Byron Jones’ and Darian Thompson, among others.

Next week will likely be the first time we see Hooker on the field, and it’ll be important to keep a close eye on him and how he’s moving after the Achilles injury in 2020.
